Before buying a car, it is important to find out about its maintenance: how and at what price? There are differences between an electric vehicle and a conventional vehicle. A car needs to be regularly maintained as much from the point of view of the ageing of the vehicle (risking to accelerate in the event of not maintenance) as for the safety of the users. We will explain what you need to know to properly maintain your electric vehicle.
This step is essential to make sure your vehicle is well maintained. The maintenance of an electric car requires different techniques than for a traditional maintenance, even if for certain parts, the maintenance is identical.
It should be noted that traditional garages do not necessarily accommodate mechanics trained in electrical maintenance. Care must be taken to ensure that the garage is authorized for certain rather dangerous operations and that it has the appropriate equipment.
The remote controlled electric motors: it requires little maintenance. This motor is used in direct current, it is the same principle as a dynamo. It is in two parts, the fixed part that produces a magnetic field (the stator) and a rotating part (the rotor). Be careful when buying a new generation engine to avoid having to provide too much maintenance afterwards.
Batteries: you won't have to do any daily maintenance. However, like any battery, it has a life span that should not be exceeded at the risk of seeing your mileage capacity limited. The battery life of an electric car varies between 7 and 10 years.
The shock absorbers: the maintenance will be the same as for a classic car. They may not be approached in the same way.
The transmission: you have a maintenance to carry out every 60 to 100,000 kilometers. It's a simpler mechanism on an electric car but you still have to change the oil.
Brakes: You will have to change your brakes less often with an electric car. Indeed, the braking system is different from a conventional car. Indeed, the power supply of the electric vehicle will receive part of the energy used during electric braking, therefore conventional brakes are less stimulated.
For the other mechanical and electronic elements, it is the same maintenance as for a classic car.
The electric car does not have only advantages since you will need to have over long distances recharging points so as not to break down. However, it has significant advantages in terms of its economic performance. Indeed, you will have a less expensive maintenance than for a classic car since some parts will have to change less often. Moreover, the mechanics being simplified (an engine with very few moving parts, no draining, no alternator and no exhaust) it will cost you less to maintain than a normal vehicle.
Moreover, the energy you use to transport yourself is cheaper than diesel or gasoline.
